Relation Supposing Books Merlin (The Pendragon Cycle #2)

An enchanting tale of love and loss, glory and grandeur, set in the twilight of Rome's power . . . where the Celtic chieftains of Britain battle to save their land from an onrushing darkness . . . In this modern classic, Stephen Lawhead presents a majestic retelling of Western literature's most compelling epic. Merlin. His golden eyes saw the shape of a world yet to be. His wisdom would light the path of the coming King. Born of a union between druid and faery, he was trained as a bard and schooled in the ways of battle. But his heart and calling were greater than a warrior's. Son of the great Taliesin, the song of his father coursed through his soul. Yet his life and mission were to be his own. And though sovereignty was his, he would lay it aside to serve a king of his own choosing. As his powers transcended those of mortal men, so, too, would his trials, his griefs . . . and the dark might of his most fearsome enemy. In the twilight of Tome's rule over the Island of the Mighty, as smaller men vied for ascendancy, his would be the hand to lay the foundations of a new order -- the Kingdom of Summer . . . and Arthur, Pendragon of Britain. Merlin is book two in the Pendragon Cycle.

Evaluate Based On Books Merlin (The Pendragon Cycle #2)
I so enjoy and relish how Lawhead writes the story of the legendary Merlin. You feel engaged and connected to this England of small kingdoms and many kings, all trying to stay alive against all the forces opposing them. They have yet to be united under one banner and Merlin is the man bringing in this change, though he may not know it yet. Lawhead knows how to tell a good story and have characters you connect with, feeling their joy and their suffering. The way he weaves magic and reality in his

It took me a bit of effort to get back into the world and remember who was who and what happened in Taliesin (it's been a few months since I read that one), but once I managed that, I was swept away by the world and by the wonderful workings of Merlins mind and life. I had a bit of trouble following the timeline (there passed far more time than I thought), but I really liked it and want to read the next part (that's where it gets really interesting for me, as someone who likes the Arthur

BoringVery little actionNot sure where the focus on Christianity comes from, made no sense to meMerlin supposedly had all this power he never used for anythingReplayed the failed relationship from the first book, he killed the woman this timeWhen something of interest happened no detail of how it whyDo not recommend this book

Rarely have I had such a strong negative reaction to a book. I hated it. And part of the reason, I think, I that the first volume, Taliesin, was superb. But while in Taliesin Lawhead spun an intriguing tale that treated the source material with respect, Merlin quickly becomes a religious tract proclaiming how superior christianity is to the pagan religions that it displaces. For me, Lawhead did two unforgivable things in this book. First, he makes Merlin a christian and a missionary. Yes, of

This is the second of the series which is a long continuing saga of the legend of King Arthur. It ends at a convenient stopping point, but I didn't think that the story stood by itself. The first section titled King, is off to a decent start. The material is different from approaches to the legend that I'm familiar with. Section 2, Forest Lord, is where this book starts to fall apart. For starters, since the entire book is first person narration by Merlin, most of this section is intended to

Listened to the second installment of the series on audiobook and enjoyed it. Im captured by all the Arthur legends and am especially enjoying this series as it includes Celtic Christianity; Merlin is more a sage than a magician. Third book is on Hoopla waiting for me. These books are long either in print or audiobook so just be prepared.

the second book of the cycle, but the first book of the cycle that i read.. :pall i can say is, this book made me love merlin even more.. ^_^a must read for those of you who loves arthurian legend.. there's a bit of religious stuff in all of stephen r. lawhead's books, which is fine with me.. :)
