Ruth Rothwax, eine 43-jährige Geschäftsfrau, führt nach drei Scheidungen ein angenehmes Single-Leben in New York. Piece Based On Books Zu viele Männer
This is one of my all time favourite books. The first line still makes me laugh, and that's the beauty of this book. It explores a traumatic subject with humour and beautifully-written characters. I fell a bit in love with Edek. It's one of those books I recommend to others over and over.

A book with a lot of heart. A very good historical book of fiction.

Don't understand the rave reviews for this book. I found it overall quite tedious, the main character fairly unlikable, and the writing stilted and repetitve. There were some interesting facts in the book, but they were presented in a very workman-like way. Dialogue was dry and generally boring, and overall, very little actually happened. Can't say I'd recommend it.

This book was a wonderful read. Its poignant, devastating ( based on the holocaust) yet funny in parts. I love the way Lily Brett writes.I loved Edek. Hes even wackier in the sequel You Gotta Have Balls. I believe hes based on Bretts own Dad. The main character, Ruth who runs a letter writing business in New York, is also excellent. She is very keen to go to Poland with Edek, as she wants to make sense of the past, the extermination of her family. The description of their time in Poland is

This book is definitely not for everyone. It's a deeply emotional journey to Poland by a Holocaust survivor and his daughter. A heartbreaking tale of a woman's search for her roots. The Holocaust was a mass extermination of Jews carried out in a coldly methodical manner. The cruelty and torture was unbelievable and it is hard for us to comprehend the psychological state of the survivors who lost their whole families in the gas chambers. This is a must read to understand how the survivors of the

This book was lent to me by the neighbour of a friend. As soon as I started reading I was drawn into the story, as told from the perspective if Ruth, with all her anxieties and foibles, fixation on words and encyclopaedic knowledge of the holocaust, especially as it related to Jews of Poland. There is humour as well as pathos and fierce honesty in the telling. It leads you to question many things.
