Column Out Of Books Monday's Child

Nice! Enjoyed it so much. British comedy always gets me. I love the plot, I love how the story was told, too bad there needs to be a makeover for the supposedly 'ugly' girl though. I will take a look at this author's other works!

Great pool/beach read - read this over a long weekend on vacation. Interesting story, but I felt like it ended very abruptly. I would have liked to have seen an epilogue of some sort. I enjoyed the development of the character Janet, but was surprised she didn't become a stylist or something in the fashion industry since they focused so much on how she was able to pick clothes out for Anna that looked good on her.

Love this book. Your talent and skills speak volumes beyond anything you can imagine and nothing will keep you back from getting what's rightfully yours. Self awareness and personal motivation are all you need to get your life on the right track then everything will fall into place. A great story told with a wonderful message to big girls to just be yourself and love you for you.

It seems unfair to give this only three stars but really it is what it is. I would love to say that much of the exploration around gender, monetary, and beauty inequities was challenging, insightful and gave me much to consider....actually to a point I can, but really, it was escapist chick lit that was perfect for right now! To me it seems that chick lit is much maligned and thought of as vapid and shallow, this disappoints me as often it is not the case. There are some excellent examples about

I picked this up as a quick-read with no high hopes, but I was pleasantly surprised. Although the story is an old one and not very surprising, I was really enthralled with Bagshawe's good writing and character development. Of course it would make a great movie:) And, I have to say, I'm disappointed that the end ended when it did; I'm sad I didn't get to see the heroine more happy! Great read!

Parts of this are entertaining, but the main character's main struggle she has to get over is her horribly low self-esteem, and there are near constant mentions of how ugly she is. And all the people around her are constantly saying it too. It distracted from the story, and seemed really unrealistic.

Almost every other Louise Bagshawe book I've read, I've loved and found utterly impossible to put down. Therefore it came as a huge surprise to me that not only was this not the case for this one, I was actually somewhat bored with it at times.It had its good parts - I loved the friendship that developed between Anne and Janet - but as a whole it was predictable and unrealistic (well... even more than her books are usually ;) ), she spent far too little time on the aspects of the book that I
