This was much easier to get into than the first one. I felt that Robin did a much better job at presenting the Christians and Muslims equally, with characters from both sides having good and bad personality's. For example I thought Baybars was a total bastard in the last book but we get to see a different side to him just before he dies, I ended up feeling sad that he was dead! And Garin! What are publishers so dead set on turning a series of books into a trilogy? Crusade continues the series started with Brethren and we follow Will Campbell as he tries to secretly work to bring peace in the Holy Lands. However, this book would best have been broken in half. Although I had not read the first book in the series I soon picked up the storyline as characters and worlds are well defined in the opening chapters. I particularly liked the historical period and felt the book well researched. Robyn Young created believable fictional characters to complete the historical story of the Templars. I was taken enough with the story to feel compelled to read the next book.

As with Brethren, I liked this but didn't love it.However, I am hooked, and have already started Requiem: The Fall of the Templars.
