While this series is fast-paced and introduces some new elements to vampire lore (vampires can go out in sunlight! they don't need to eat, but they can get drunk!), it's not among my favorites. It's difficult to like the bounty-hunter-turned vampire, Anna Strong. She literally attacks her so-called friends when they don't tell her what she wants to know. Why does anyone put up with her?

I imagine Stein's next book will be out sometime next year and I'll certainly give it a try... maybe by then Anna will have come to terms with her powers and behave better.

More random thoughts1) More nasty female characters. Where's Anna's female friends? Or any female character of substance that is not antagonistic or downright villainous? I want more Sorrell for example.2) I do like that Anna is a fairly sexually active (she is vampire now after all) but that so far there is very little romance in the series. This is the third book in the Anna Strong Chronicles. It was written in a style consistent with the first two. It was a pretty good book and I think if you liked the first two, you would also like this book.Anna is signed on to be a Watcher. As normal things get out of control. A lot happens in this book. Anna is involved in everything from helping seek down a witch bent on summoning demons into the world, to retrieving her lost boyfriend Max from what are thought to be more typical enemies.So

It took me a long time to read this one because life got on the way. I read like a chapter a day, but with there being 60ish... it took a while. This one lacked something for me.. so it earned 4 not 5stars.Her guardian "casper" is no more and that will take some of the fun. Who will help her now? Max is gon and he knows she is a vampire. Will that come up later? What about Culebra, she hasn't seen him since he "tried" to follow her so I know this will come up later. Oh and where is Gloria?

Still readable, but this will never be my favorite series nor will Anna ever be my favorite person. I plan on reading the next book, though. It kind of reminds me of Evanovitch's 'Stephanie Plum' series in some ways. An OK, quick read, but it doesn't really grab me.
