Akiko and her crew–Spuckler Boach, Mr. Beeba, Poog, and Gax–are competing in an intergalactic race from one side of the universe to the other. Along the way they have to make it through the narrow passages of the Labyrinth of Lulla-ma-Waygo, the notorious Almost Black Hole of Luzbert-7, and the deadly Jaws of McVluddapuck. All Akiko wants to do is make it back to Earth in one piece!
But when Spuckler discovers that his old rival Bluggamin Streed is also in the race, winning becomes the most important thing. And Akiko quickly finds herself caught up in the competition. Who will go home with the celebrated Centauri Cup?

Discuss Out Of Books Akiko and the Alpha Centauri 5000 (Akiko Books #6)
Aw, Oxlips!

I do enjoy reading the Akiko books, and Akiko and the Alpha Centauri 5000 is the best of the books so far. The action is non-stop and a ton of fun. Young readers will love the illustrations that Mark Crilley draws throughout the story, as he can draw exactly what he described because he wrote the story. What is nice about this story, and different from all the other Akiko books, is that there is not necessarily a bad guy with an intricate plan. There is not a big plot . . . just a race to win in

I really hope to get this from a library or buy it so that I can read it.

In this space adventure based on a popular series of graphic novels, fifth grader Akiko finds herself 'trans-moovulated' to the deck of the rusty starship Boach's Bullet, to help her friends from the planet Smoo win the intergalactic race known as the Alpha Centauri 5000. This book will appeal to readers age 7-11, whether they are already Akiko fans or not."CIP: "Akiko's spaceship race from one side of the galaxy to the other is complicated when Spuckler discovers that an old rival of his is

Actual Rating: 4.9 stars.I really liked it! Very interesting plot overall. The ending was a bit of a letdown, though, but that's just my opinion.

This is but one of the short novels based on Crilley's graphic novels. It is not the comic book style graphic novel, but a novel version of the same story. It is still a great story and there are some fun pictures, not just cut and pastes from the graphic novel. Fun, fun, FUN. I think in our house we enjoy the graphic novels better, but these novels are very good all the same.
